• WHY ALMOST EVERY INDIAN FASHION BRANDS FAIL
“Fashion is like eating, you shouldn't stick to the same menu'' the maxim is quite an apt in present ever-changing global village market where every second per capita income, per capita GDP etc. are on the northern side of equalizer Stick. To cope up with the urbanistic cosmopolitan lifestyle people's fashion sense are rising day after another. Every here and there we can see Modern Youth generation competing among themselves in terms of sartorial modernity. But to everyone's surprise there is still a country in this globe where no particular fashion sense could get a success, yes it does exist, Welcome to the 1300 million's country world's 5th biggest economy, the biggest democracy, yes its India(earlier Hindustan) where diverse culture, cuisine, language thinking exist but no particular fashion brands got success till date. A lot of reasons keep the name of Indian fashion Brands under Cloak Of Invisibility.
First, Hindustan is now misconstrued with residence of Hindus(Hindus here again misunderstood as a religion, Hinduism has never been a religion, it was a way of life) but actually India is home to world's every single small religion culture diversity. Still, in this era of Nanochip and Artificial Intelligence politicians here love to get vote in the name of religions, castes, creeds. Tormented with all these if any fashion brand manage to raise their name in the name of ethnicity, secularism govt suppress them.
It's quite unfortunate that the country which taught the entire world lesson of Kama(sex), now wearing bikinis or KISSING openly strictly prohibited, sex is the biggest taboo in India, where Western culture allows them to roam naked our culture still force us to cover our private parts because we forget our glorious past. To cope up with the latest fashion sense of western culture where girls roam with open breast, men love to travel in an underwear We need to develop such a modern sense of fashion. We need to prove the rest of the world that our Sartorial sense is not by any means inferior to them. We Need to revive our Lost Culture. This nation had gifted a lot of things to the world. Hindus(natives of Hindustan)have a lot of diverse dress culture, Bengali,Bihari, Punjabi,Kashmiris, North-eastern,Manipuri, Hilly terrain, south Indians, Marathis, Rajasthani, every single area has its own distinct culture. If we could showcase them in our fashions brand then India would surely possess the biggest name in Fashion World but due to pseudo conservative mentality we are still behind countries like Mozambik or even Kenya.
Second, Governments unreasonable restriction. Here if a Company launches a dress which violate any particular Religion Norms then govt along with judiciary start banning them and those companies out of Exasperating Farrago of legitimate Fear, religious Apprehension and Financial pressure refrain themselves from entering into fashion market again. Here public presentation of undergarments, bikini etc. are censored badly so even before entering western markets our Ideas are destroyed. Those dresses that are favorites to Indians here never find their customers in Western developed nations and outside India because Ethnic sartorial are not favorites to non-Indians. A country where open advertisement for contraceptives are banned how can someone expect a super skimpy fashion products to be popular here ????
Third, Trade restrictions. The heavy taxation of Indian govt is not favorable for many local brands to export their brands and fashion products. However recent Government is allowing a lot of Local companies to export their products into foreign market at a reasonable rate. This is however a silver-lining for Indian fashion markets still we are living in a far-flung society where Lynching is a reality and Casteism, regionalism is prevalent. With all these mean practices we can never catch other developed economies like UK,Finland, US Canada,Germany etc.
More or less still fashion related study is not given enough priority in our country. Still, we are producing millions of Engineers every year with more than 70% of them being jobless. Fashion technology if given enough importance then it can contribute a lot to our GDP within a span of 3-4 years. State-of-the-art institutes for Fashion should be started and Govt should inspire SMEs to step forward into making a Bigger Indian Fashion Brand.
Fourth, A country where still 40 Mn people sleep hungry it's almost next to impossible to provide fashion brands to rest of the world in a superb manner. Govt cannot even feed its BPL families properly so before investing even 1% of its expenditure into fashion industry govt should think twice but on the other hand bringing SMEs into this sector can raise an employment up to 5 Mn’s, this can be a changing scenario. Inspector Raj, Tyranny of bureaucrats etc. are not inspiring bigger brands to come forward and launching their ideas into global market.
Finally, We need a unified market and more centralized taxation to emerge as the biggest Fashion Industry producing country because we all know India can do it because we have a bigger population, world's biggest youth population, numerous potentiality, etc. The only thing we are lacking is Endeavor so if We try nothing seems impossible. Once our Muslin reigned the entire world, there was a time when our GDP was 53% of Global GDP in terms of PPP(purchasing power parity)
